Christina D’Angelo Steps into STORM Assistant Director Position

DLo2STORM Lacrosse Director, Sue Murphy elevates current STORM Elite 2016 head coach Christina D’Angelo to STORM Lacrosse Assistant Director.

Sue Murphy on Coach D’Angelo – “It has been a pleasure to see Christina (D’Lo or #3 to me) grow into such an accomplished young coach (and teacher).  Christina’s work ethic and passion is second to none and her players see that.  She strives to provide constructive feedback to her student-athletes, which in turn I have witnessed their individual and team development.  Christina has a gift of how to push a player forward and over walls or tough times, while players get to really care about her in return.  Christina does demand from her players and has high expectations, I often wonder if she could have gotten some of those qualities from the 4 years Barb and I spent coaching her at University of Richmond!  A committed, genuine, passionate and overall super person and coach…we are so very lucky to have Christina commit to our STORM program as STORM Lacrosse, Assistant Director.”

“STORM lacrosse has given me the opportunity to coach a sport that I fell in love with many years ago. The program has allowed me to connect with kids from all over the state of Virginia, to watch them develop and to help them meet their goals. Storm has also helped me grow as a coach and I continue to learn about myself, on a consistent basis. I was recruited by Sue Murphy and Barb DiArcangelo at the age of 18 to play lacrosse at the University of Richmond, and I am so thankful to see where that relationship has taken us. We get to all stand together and grow the sport of women’s lacrosse.” – Christina D’Angelo

Coach D’Angelo will now take on administrative duties to further develop our STORM program while she will remain Head Coach of STORM Elite 2016.   She has already been instrumental in our STORM Elite evaluations, future policy for our program, recruitment of coaches  and continued recruiting education to our players and families.

This past year Coach D’Angelo has added to her coaching resume a coach selector and evaluate at UnderArmour Classic  tryouts and the Mid-Atlantic National team tryouts.  She also served as director of Winter Group Training for STORM and as Head Coach at The Steward School, a trip to the State Tournament while producing a 1st Team All State Player, two 2nd Team All State Players and one All-LIS Player.  D’Angelo offers private lessons, pre-season training and team camps as a STORM coach.

Coach D’Angelo joins our outstanding administrative team with Barb DiArcangelo who continues on as STORM Lacrosse, Assistant Director.  We look forward to growing our ‘administrative team’ as our program has taken great steps forward in terms of success and growth at all levels.

STORM Alum Schyler Neale Makes Irish National Team for Summer 2013 World Cup

Schyler Storm 2

Schyler Neale

Irish National Team Member

Request For Sponsorships For 2013 Women’s World Cup, July 1020, Oshawa, Canada

President of New World Sports and Co-Director of STORM Lacrosse, Sue Murphy on Neale “It has been a pleasure witnessing Schyler’s lacrosse development over the years.  We as coaches and the STORM family are VERY PROUD of Schyler’s accomplishments in both representing the Irish National Team in Canada this summer at the World Cup and committing to play DI ball at American University.  I hope we can ‘dig deep’ and support Schyler’s goals as she has and will continue to make us all proud!”

My name is Schyler Neale and I am currently a senior at Patrick Henry High School in Ashland, Virginia and a former New World Sports Storm team member. I have been playing lacrosse for 7 years, starting in the 5th grade. I am reaching out to family, friends, area businesses and the local lacrosse community to help fund my participation in the 2013 Women’s World Cup of Lacrosse in Canada this summer.

Last October, I had the opportunity to travel to Dublin, Ireland to try out for the women’s national lacrosse team for the upcoming World Cup this July in Oshawa, Canada. I have recently been selected to the official roster for this summer’s games. As a dual U.S. and Irish citizen, I am eligible to play for Ireland. There will be 3 other Americans on the 18 player roster.

While still a relative newcomer to lacrosse, Ireland has fielded competitive teams in numerous events over the last 10 years. However, unlike teams from the U.S. or Canada, the Irish Lacrosse Foundation does not yet have the money to fully support an endeavor like this.

Each player is expected to raise approximately $3,000 for this opportunity. I am hoping you might consider supporting my participation in this pinnacle event in women’s lacrosse that only occurs once every four years. While no donation is too small I would suggest sponsorship levels of $50, $100, $250, and $500 to help me meet my goal. I am hoping to share individual and/or
team pictures, hopefully framed for larger Foundation donors, when I get back from Canada.

I will be attending American University next year, where I will continue my lacrosse career in their program. Division 1 NCAA regulations do not allow me to directly receive funds for this type of activity, however, they do allow me to raise funds for a team or program like the Irish Lacrosse Foundation.

Should you choose to contribute, please send checks made payable to the Irish Lacrosse Foundation and mail to Schyler Neale at 14700 Blunts Bridge Road, Doswell, Va, 23047 and I will forward on to the Foundation. Contributions are tax deductible.

There are also opportunities to buy ad space in the Ireland media guide which will count towards my total, please contact me for more details if you are interested. Whether or not you choose to contribute, please feel free to forward this flyer on to others you think might have an interest.

Thank you for letting me contact you in this regard, any help will be most appreciated. I can be reached at if you have any questions.

While I will be wearing the green, white, and orange of the Irish flag, I will also proudly be representing Patrick Henry High School, New World Sports STORM, Hanover County, and the Richmond region, as well as the growing community that is girl’s lacrosse in the Central Virginia area.

LaxClash Nov 4 2012 Schedule

New World Sports President, Sue Murphy, announces the addition of new STORM coaches.  “We are very fortunate to bring more quality and experienced female coaches to our STORM staff.  This outstanding group of women along with our returning coaches will be great leaders, mentors and instructors for our growing program.”

Kelly McQuade is the owner of Zing Fit, a women-only small group fitness training company in Tuckahoe Shopping Center, Richmond.  Kelly played both field hockey & lacrosse at Division I William & Mary.  Upon graduation, she assisted both programs before coming the Head Field Hockey coach at VCU for 5 seasons leading them to Top 20 national prominence.   Last Spring, 2012 Kelly returned to her alma mater to assist Brooke Ireland (Richmond) with Wm & Mary’s lacrosse program.  Kelly will run LAXtra sessions for our STORM players to introduce them to a higher level of fitness training.

Recent Mary Washington graduate, Cat Kennedy, will join our STORM staff as a 3x All American Attack player.  Cat accumulated the following lacrosse honors – 3x All State, 4x 1st team All-CAC,  3x 1st Team All Region and in 2012 received 2012 All-State College Lacrosse Player of the Year.  Cat captained Mary Washington’s lacrosse team her senior year where she led them to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.

Jackie Moore, a Spider alum of The University of Richmond, where she played lacrosse coming from Baltimore, MD has joined our middle school staff.  Jackie has recently started to coach middle school girls locally in Richmond.

Cindy Koza comes to STORM from Villanova University where she led the defense as captain her senior year.  A native of Garnett Valley, PA Koza will bring her Division I defensive experience to our program.

STORM Staff Welcomes D’Angelo and Flowers

Christina D’Angelo, native of Northport, NY played for Sue Murphy at the University of Richmond.  Christina was a four year starter on the Spider Top 10 team, helping take the University of Richmond to 3 Atlantic 10 Championships and 3 NCAA Appearances.  Christina has coached for the Yellow Jackets on Long Island, NY and will now teach history and assume the Head Coach role at The Steward School this Fall, 2012.

“Christina is a great addition to our STORM Black coaching staff.  She was a defensive specialist in high school and college but is an outstanding teacher of all areas of the game.  Christina is passionate about teaching the game.  I personally appreciate how she can teach all that she has gained from top high school and college coaching.” claims Sue Murphy, Co-Director of STORM Lacrosse.

Mary Flowers, native of VA Beach, was recruited to University of Richmond under Sue Murphy.  She graduated this past May while leading her Spiders team as a 3x Atlantic 10 Midfielder of Year and 3x Atlantic 10 First Team All Conference.

“I am thrilled to add Mary to STORM Silver staff to assist Coaches Pate & Nixon.  Mary’s recent D1 college experiences will certainly compliment our staff.  She has played against some of the top teams in the country and dominated as a Spider.  She is quite an athlete and certainly will do a lot for our young laxers.”  states New World Sports President, Sue Murphy.
